I am excited to share with you an initiative I am hoping to launch, this legislative session: the “Legislator for a Day Program,” designed to engage high school juniors and seniors in the legislative process and inspire a lifelong passion for civic engagement and community service.
Each month, I would like to invite two students from our local schools to join me in Montpelier for an immersive day of learning and discovery. The experience will include:
A personalized tour of the Vermont State House.
An introduction to the legislative process, including committee meetings, debates, and decision-making.
Shadowing me throughout the day to see firsthand what it means to serve in public office.
Complimentary transportation to and from Montpelier, as well as lunch.
I believe this program offers an invaluable opportunity for students to see democracy in action, understand how laws and policies are shaped, and explore ways they can make a difference in their communities. For those with an interest in history, government, or public service, this experience could provide meaningful inspiration and a deeper understanding of how the lessons from your classroom apply to real-world governance.
I am eager to work together to help foster the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and community advocates. Should you have any questions or need additional information, do not hesitate to contact me at abartley@leg.state.vt.us.
